Chris Ofili will be Opening a Major survey of over 45 paintings at the Tate Britian. The show opens
Jan. 27th till May 16,2010. Chris Ofili was one of the YBA (Young British Artists) who along with
Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst and others, stormed the art world during the 1990's. The show "Sensations" at the Brooklyn Musuem of Art caused a huge schism with then NYC Mayor Giuliani.
Rudy could not handle Ofili's painting," The Holy Virgin Mary"due to it's " mixed media" elements of collaged pornographic imagery and it's large orbs of resined elephant dung along with it's central figure of a black madonna.
Being that I love controversy and elephant dung - ha
and how beautiful and resonating Ofili's paintings are -- I want to see this show in London.
Chris Ofili won the Turner Prize in 1998 at the age of 30.
